Bio : I am a PhD student at the Australian Research Centre for Urban Ecology (Royal Botanic Garden Victoria) and the University of Melbourne.  My PhD is investigating the impact of roads on insectivorous bats, in South-East Australia.  I am particularly interested in evaluating the impact of sensory pollution (i.e. light and noise pollution) on insectivorous bats.  Previously, I completed my B.Sc (Honours) at Queen’s University in Ontario, Canada where I investigated the impact of urbanization on personality and behaviour in Western Bluebirds.

Bio : Hanna Helsingen is a political scientist with a focus on environmental policy and currently leads the work on green economy for WWF Myanmar with a strong focus on sustainable infrastructure. Hanna has previously worked at IUCN in Switzerland, supporting the IUCN policy cycle. Other experiences include the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in Geneva providing field support to the Afghanistan Programme and UNEP in New York, following environmental issues at the UN General Assembly and improving environmental sustainability at the UN headquarters. Previous field studies include water scarcity and religion in Jordan and on the impact of deforestation on endangered species in Ecuador. Hanna holds a Master of Public Administration in Environmental Science and Policy from Columbia University, United States as well as a bachelor degree in Political Science from Uppsala University, Sweden.

He studied plant-herbivore interactions in wetlands for the Dutch Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management (1992-1995), hedgehog traffic victims and mitigation strategies in an anthropogenic landscape for the Dutch Society for the Study and Conservation of Mammals (1995-1999), and multifunctional land use issues on agricultural lands for the Research Institute for Animal Husbandry at Wageningen University and Research Centre (1999-2002). In the second half of 2014 he was a visiting professor at the University of São Paulo in Brazil. Currently Marcel works on wildlife-transportation issues for the Western Transportation Institute at Montana State University (2002-present).
